The museum, founded in 1873 for the 5th Centenary of Copernico’s birth, houses various memorabilia on the great astronomus alongside old instruments such as sextants, sundials and quadrants. There are also sections devoted to the history of telescope, to navigation instruments, cosmology and cartography. The museum includes a library with rare editions on ancient astronomy, as the exemplar of the first edition of Copernico's "De Rivolutionibus Orbium Coelestium"
