Of special note: engravings by Jacques Callot, by Martin Engelbrecht, drawings by Adolfo De Carolis, water-colours by Pietro Antonio Novelli. The Burcardo collections also include 40 stage costumes, a collection of terra-cotta statuettes portraying characters of the Commedia dell'Arte, puppets and marionettes (among which a group of 18th-century Chinese marionettes). Also remarkable the set-designs by Romolo Liverani, Galileo Chini and Franco Laurenti. It also houses 120 oil- or tempera paintings, mostly portraits of 19th- and 20th-century actors and play-writers. Of special note three large paintings ascribed to Pier Leone Ghezzi. The museum ends with a collection of about 1900 scripts, the oldest of which are the 16th-century plays by Lozzo del Mazza; among the autograph scripts, the Italian and the English versions of "Liolà" by Luigi Pirandello, "La Nemica" by Dario Niccodemi and "Chill'è Pazzo" by Eduardo De Filippo. |
