Open: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9-13; first Sunday of the month 9.30-12.30,
excluding summer months. The Gardens are open Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9-12. Description: One of the finest of its kind in the world. Founded in 1775 to be continually enriched by donations and transfers (Tropical Plant Collection in Rome), consisting of some four million samples from all over the world. Of particular value, some plant collections from the XVI to XIX centuries, wax models of plants by Calamai, canvas paintings of vegetables and plants (17C and 18C), the xylographical display with some 5,000 wooden samples. Next to the museum is the antique "Giardino dei Semplici" (Botanical Gardens), founded in 1545. |
