CATHEDRAL or SANTA MARIA DEL FIORE

Open: 7-12 and 14.30-18.00 Description: Work on the cathedral began at the end of the 13C and continued until the completion of its facade in the 19C. Arnolfo di Cambio, one of the most interesting artists of Gothic style, F.Talenti and Brunelleschi all contributed to its construction. Its splendid doors date back to the 14-15C. Its simple harmonious interior with three apses is a museum in itself, with the works of Tino di Camaino and Benedetto da Maiano, paintings by A. del Castagno and P. Uccello, frescoes by Vasari and Zuccari, windows designed by Donatello, Ghiberti, Paolo Uccello and A. del Castagno.
