Hotels LOGGIA DELLA SIGNORIA
| Location: |
FLORENCE Piazza della Signoria |
|
|
Description: It forms an eminent background for the Florentine "piazza", the setting
of town life and events from the Middle Ages to present day. Also called the loggia dei
Lanzi, attributed to Orcagna, it was built in Gothic style by Benci da Cione and S. Talenti.
Below it stand numerous sculptures, including "the Rape of the Sabine Women" by Giambologna,
Roman statues, the renowned "Perseo" by Cellini (1544). The Piazza itself provides the
surroundings for statues and the grand fountain of Neptune by Ammannati of the XVI century. |
