MUSEUM OF SANTA MARIA NOVELLA

Open: 9-14; Sundays and public holidays 9-13. Closed on Fridays. Description: In the grand 14C monastery, within its cloisters, refectory, Cappella degli Ubriachi and the Sala degli Spagnoli, emphasis has been placed on the frescoes by Paolo Uccello ("Storie della Genesi"), a polyptych by Bernardo Daddi, frescoes by Andrea Bonaiuto and Andrea da Firenza, the decoration of the Chiostrino dei Morti, terra-cotta by Robbia, codices and reliquaries (there is a splendid one made of crystal of the early 14C); "Paliotto dell'Assunta" in velvet by a mid 15C Florentine school, sacred hangings, including one by S.Tommaso from Canterbury. The museum was opened in 1983.
