SANTA MARIA DEL CARMINE

Location:	FLORENCE Piazza del Carmine
Description: The highlight of this church is the "Brancacci Chapel" with its revolutionary works of Italian art during the Renaissance, displaying frescoes by Masolino, Masaccio and Filippino Lippi. Masaccio's frescoes (presently being restored) on the "Life of St. Peter display his simple but powerful style; a marvel of strength, technique and sentiments that influenced Florentine artists in the 15C. Worthy of note is the Sacristy (canvases and frescoes of the 14C-15C) and the 17C cloister. The Sala Capitolare and the former refectory contain an array of separate frescoes and paintings of the XV and XVI centuries by F. Lippi, G.Starnina, F. Vanni, Lippo Fiorentina and A. Allori.
