Description: The museum houses masterpieces removed from the Duomo, Baptistery and Campanile and findings during excavations on the Duomo's premises. On display sculptures of the original 14C facade, in part by Arnolfo di Cambio, the famous "Cantorie" by L. della Robbia and Donatello, the original statues and panels removed from the Campanile, works by Donatello, A. Pisano, L. della Robbia and other artists, which provide a valuable documentation of 14C-15C Florentine art. In addition: the dramatic "Pieta" which Michelangelo worked on from 1550-53, wooden models of the dome and its lantern, working tools, sarcophaghi and Roman fragments, sacred hangings from the Middle ages to the Renaissance period, illuminated codices and magnificent sacramental treasures, including the silver altarpiece depicting the life of John the Baptist, works by Florentine goldsmiths of the 14C-15C.
