Housed in the 14th-century Municipal Palace, the museum exhibits Sienese masterpieces from the 14th- to the 16th century, gold-works, French and Florentine tapestries, majolica ware, weapons and a collection of 14th- to 18th-century Sienese ceramics. A number of rooms also contains important frescos by Simone Martini (the Majesty and Guidoriccio da Fogliano) and Ambrogio Lorenzetti (the cycle of Good Government and Bad Government in the Peace Room) as well as works by Beccafumi, Sano di Pietro, Martino di Bartolomeo, Taddeo di Bartolo, and Guido da Siena.
