The Regional Park of Maremma, founded in 1975, has been the first park of Tuscany, has rich pasturelands ideal for horses and cows of Maremma race, always controlled by the legendary guardians, called "butteri", famous becouse they won Buffalo Bill. There is the green pine-wood, the typical mediterranean vegetation ideal for wild-boars, deers, roe deers, porcupines, badgers, martens, beech-martens, hares, wild rabbits.
Apart from the park, in total there are more than 200.000 hactares considered protected areas, that is 44% of land of the Province. All this classify the Province of Grosseto as one of the most large "green areas" of Italy, and makes it worth a tour to visit this uncontaminated and welcoming land.
