Founded in 1236 by Frederick of Hohenstaufen, this centre close to Pescara is divided into the two separate centres of Montesilvano Marina and Montesilvano Colle. It is linked to Pescara by a pleasant seaside footpath more than 7 km (4 miles) long. Montesilvano owes its name to the thick forests that once covered the hills near the coast. The small old town centre, located in Montesilvano Colle, contains a 15th-c. parish church and a look out offering magnificent sea views. A broad tree-lined avenue connects the old town to the new.
Montesilvano is made even more charming by the large choice of accommodation facilities on offer.
