Pisticci is defined as a huge amphitheatre surrounded by the sea, green plains and natural gullies having the mountains of the Lucanian Appenines in the background. The origin of its name is not sure, but is seems to derive from the Greek word Pistoikon meaning loyal place. It boasts many archaeological findings dating back to the 6th century A.D. The millenary Sanctuary of Madonna del Casale is situated about 1 km from the village.
