Nova Siri rises on the hill lying behind Taverna, once the site of the Greek colony called "Siris". When it was destroyed by the Saracens, the survivors founded the village, that was to be their safe haven, later called Bollita.
The house of Luigi Settembrini's ancestors is situated in Nova Siri.
