Lagonegro a very characteristic town is famous as the burial place of Monnalisa. It is situated in a green valley at the feet of Mt. Sirino, which is covered by snow for the major part of the year, and offers ski runs for alpine and cross-country skiing.
Dense woods cover its slopes and in their midst, to the tourists surprise, there are very small lakes such as lake "Remmo" and "Laudemio".
Furthermore Lagonegro is only a few km. From the Caves of the Angel (pertosa) which date back to 35 million years ago and are characterised by magnificient stalactites and stalagmites. Nearby there is the Certosa di Padula, one of the most important Carthusian monasteries in Europe going back to 1305, the National Pollino Park, one of the biggest in Italy, and the thermal baths in Latronico.
