Praia a Mare, a hamlet of Aieta, at about 103 km from Cosenza the Capital of the Province, is now a weil known and frequented seaside resort on the tyrrhenian coast of Calabria.
The centre is well equipped with hotels, inns and other tourist services. Its Grotto, known since ancient times, is beyond the inhabitated centre on a side of the Vinglolo Mountain, where stands the small church of the "Assunta" or "Madonna della Grotta", so called because inside a small statue of the Holy Virgin (XIV century) is kept.
The beautiful triangular-shaped island lying at 1 km from the beach is under the Municipality of Praia; it is the island of Dino, formerly Dina, from the classic name Aedina deriving from a small temple sacred to Venus. Its shore opens onto some small blue "grottos" which have been compared to Capri's.
