The name of Strongoli, ancient city of pre-roman history, and it was under the rule of Crotone. Perhaps in the ancient city coins were struck, moreover epigraphs of archeological value have been found. Not far from the centre there are ruins of roman building units which are, by some researchers, believed to belong to the lost Petelia, possibily a city of Magna Grecia. To be seen are also the ruins of a castle dating norman times, which had been rebuilt several times throughout the centuries. The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie is of great interest.
The majority of the inhabitants are engaged in the sugar industry and in the extraction of sulphur. The rail-way station is in the hamlet of Marina di Strongoli at a distance of 9 kilometres.
