Briatico is an unmissable stop with its wonderful seaside roadway situated on the first step of this splendid many-coloured and uniquely-terraced coast. Of early Middle Age origin, it was rebuilt in the actual site after the 1783 earthquake had destroyed the ancient Briatico, witnessed by the medieval castle's ruins. On the beach you can easily see two towers (XVI century) of the anti-Turkish defensive system: the Rocchetta and the Sant'Irene tower. Earthenware findings have been recently unearthed with some flint and obsidian tools, a vase containing human remains and a rich funeral equipment including a rock crystal pendant. They probably witness a human settlement dating back to the Copper Age. The very famous promenade of Briatico partly faces the Gulf of Lamezia Terme, offering suggestive views in the full-moon nights, and partly the Eolie Islands, moving the romantic with its enchanting sunsets. Briatico is full of beaches, cliffs and bays that follow one another.
