Drapia is a few kilometres from Tropea. Its former name, "Drapea", gives away its origins which date back to the Byzantine Age. Over the course of centuries, the name endured a Norman influence and, subsequently, was eventually changed from the original Greek name to its Latin counterpart.
Today, the community of Drapia economically, thrives upon its natural resources, farming citrus fruits, beans, grapes, and cereal and also breeding cows and sheep.
