Maranello, a lively little town located about 18 km to the south of Modena, is surrounded by beautiful hillsides; these can be reached by taking the historical roads, with the possibility of admiring the enchanting scenery and leading to some excellent gastronomic stop-off points. In fact, this is the production area of balsamic vinegar, Parmigiano Reggiano Parmesan cheese and of the typical prosciutto di Modena DOP cured ham.
Thanks to its location at the foot of the Tuscan-Emilian Appenines, Maranello has acquired for the people of Modena the prestige of being known as a good place for holidays. It has a history which goes way back in time. Archaeological finds serve to document this history from as far back as the Bronze Age (1800-1000 B.C.) but there are also a large number of remains dating from much earlier epochs. The Comune (Municipality) of Maranello includes the localities of Pozza, Gorzano, Torre Maina, Torre delle Oche, San Venanzio and Fogliano.
In addition, Maranello is the synonym for Ferrari, the most prestigious, all the world, automobile company, which has its headquarters here. The Galleria Ferrari, in memory of the enterprise's founder, can be found just a few steps away from the factories and the race track.
