PARISH CHURCHES IN THE PROVINCE OF RAVENNA
Built between the VIII and IX century. They are the best evidence of a religious life apart from one's residence and city. They were situated on the path of the "ROMEI" pilgrims.
SAN PIETRO IN SILVIS (Bagnacavallo)
Built in 740. It is one of the most beautiful parish churches in the Ravenna area. Inside, a nave and single aisles separated by columns. A polygonal apse, frescoes from the XIV century. The crypt preceeds the construction of the church. Small altar from the VI century.
S. MARIA DI SARNA (Faenza)
Built in 775. Inside, the nave and single aisles were substituted by a single nave which led to the disappearance of the polygonal apse leaving space for the actual fašade.
Built in 963. Inside, a nave and single aisles separated by characteristic columns. Badly damaged during the last bombardments: it was restored and its original forms were returned.
SAN PIETRO IN TRENTO
Built in 976. Unique architecture with an asymmetric nave and single aisles. It is possible to admire, perhaps for the first time, unconnected arches without props, in groups of three within the supporting walls. The crypt is very ancient probably dating back to the pre-existent plain small church.
SAN LORENZO IN VADO RONDINE (San Pietro in Vincoli)
Built in 966. This church was totally rebuilt quite recently. Only the polygonal apse remained of the antique construction. The XIII century bell-tower had been completely destructed and was restored according to its original form.
SAN STEFANO IN TEGURIO DEL GODO (Godo)
Built in 963. Very ancient building, inside a nave and single aisles which extended to the apse.
Almost completely destroyed during the last bombardments. It was restored and has an independent facade or small lateral nave. Its round pillars, with many layers, are particularly worthy of note.
S. MARIA IN PORTOFUORI (Ravenna)
Built in 1064. Totally destructed by the last bombardments of 5/11/1944. Also called "Dante's house di Nostra Signora di Lido Adriano". There are traces of the original columns inside.
Fragments of the famous frescoes (Riminese School), which once decorated the temple, can still be observed. The V century sacrophagus of Pietro Peccatore is noteworthy.
