The town of Chissay en Touraine is situated in the central region of the Loire. Its name originates from the Latin "Chisseium" which means dominion of Cassio (1253). An old diocese of Tours, in the 15th century, it became the seignory of Pierre Bérard, Charles VII’s treasurer. He was responsible for the construction of the church, while his descendants saw to the construction of the castle. Prehistoric and other ancient remains have been uncovered in the town’s territory, such as the Necropolis des Champs d'urnes.
