The winery is based on a rich farming tradition and was founded at the beginning of the 19th century at Brazzano near Cormòns in the province of Gorizia by Luigi Zorzon, the grandfather of the present owner Giorgio DEGANIS. The familiy-run winery is situated among green hills in the heart of the Collio which offer a unique panorama, in close proximity to many historic towns including Gorizia, Grado, Trieste, Aquileia, Udine and Cividale. We currently manufacture prestigious white and red wines respecting both tradition and nature. Giorgio Deganis, produces the excellent wines. His Styrian girlfriend Petra, is the business administrator and also responsible for winetastings and wine seminars. She takes great care of her customers and organises trips to Friaul for individual tourists and companies. This partnership between Giorgio and Petra works perfectly. Additionally - as is usual in a family run winery - Giorgio's parents provide support wherever and whenever possible. Each year we attend various wine exhibitions: in January the "Tag des friauler Weines" in Vienna; in March the "Pro Wein" in Dusseldorf and the "Vinitaly" in Verona. In July we present our wines in Schloss Stainz" in Styria at the presentation "Wein und Kultur". A recent innovation is the conversion of an old barn into two attractive rooms and one apartment. Open all year it enables guests to enjoy and participate in the local activities and festivities or merely relax in the tranquillity and beauty of the Collio.
The vineyards are situated in an excellent position, occupying both the plains and hillsides of the DOC Collio area, which is subjected to strong thermal waves by night and day, mild temperatures and a constant breeze from the nearby Adriatic Sea. The soil is principally composed of marlstone, rich in mineral salts and ideal for wines.
Half of the land is dedicated to the typical autochtonic regional grape variety, Tocai Friulano, whilst Malvasia Istriana is produced the least with an average of about 8 hectolitres per year. Cultivating the vines and subsequently the wine-making itself is done with the help of modern machinery whilst keeping to the traditions of the winery as close as possible. Nowadays, the winery is run by the third generation of the family, having been founded in the beginning of the 19th Century by Luigi Zorzon, the current owner's (Giorgio Deganis) grandfather. Our wines are sold with great enthusiasm and appreciation all over Italy and also in nearby Austria and Germany. We always pleased to welcome groups of tourists, restaurant owners and individuals in our winery for guided tours of the vineyards and for winetastings in our characteristic purpose-built winecellar. The winery is spread across 20 hectares of land, of which 7 hectares are used for cultivating DOC Collio vineyards. We produce the following five white wines: Friulano, Pinot grigio, Sauvignon e Malvasia istriana; we also produce 2 red wines: Cabernet franc and Merlot; 1 Spumante; G&P Brut.
