Ferentino has very ancient origins, being already considerably developed in
Roman times. Its megalithic walls are well preserved for almost the whole of
their perimeter and contain various gateways amongst which the Porta
Sanguinaria (Bloody Gate) of the 4th century B.C. is of great importance.
The Romanesque Duomo rises on the Acropolis, and is rich in works of art of
the Cosmati and the Vassalletto.
The 12th century S. Maria Maggiore is the first work in the Gotic Cistercian
style.
The Baths - A few kilometres south of Ferentino are the baths of Pompey,
where there is a spring of alkaline water contaning sulphur and carbon, to treat
rheumatisms, breating and gynacological diseases.
