famous for its pig breeding, an ancien local tradition which links the ability
of the guarcinesi to the benefits of a mountainous climate, allowing the offer

"prosciutto".
The origins of Guercino date back to the 8th century BC, when it was a
settlement with the name of Vercenum of the Ernici, a pre-Roman Italic people,
and strategic point in the valley of the Aniene river. Situated at 625 m a.s.l.,
the town is an excellent point of departure for every type of excursion; one can
walk for hours amid century-old woodlands enriched by springs and numerous
grottoes that open into the limestone of nearby mountains.
To see: The sanctuary of Sant'Agnello, the monastery of San Luca, a belltower in
the form of a sail (the only one in Lazio), the Tomassi palace (the homestead of
Pope Bonifacio VIII).
