Borgorose is one of the largest municipalities in the province of Rieti. Until 1960, known by the name of Collefegàto, derived from Colle dato in feudo (‘hill given in feud’); in the past, it was one of the feuds of the Mareri family.
The territory is characterised by mountain peaks, woods, valleys and, by visiting the surrounding country wards, it is also possible to spot some archaeological sites. It joins and is a place of junction between a number of Apennine valleys. Things to see: the Church of San Giovanni in Leopardis which is among the most interesting Italic-Romanesque sanctuaries and the Church of Sant'Anastasia. The Montagne della Duchessa natural Reserve also belongs to the territory of this municipality.
