Varigotti is a small seaside town of Saracen origins which has been successful
in maintaining its historical centre beside the sea. It is one of the most
beautiful naturalistic-tourist stretches of the Riviera. This peaceful little
town enjoys a magnificent geographical position and one of the mildest climates
of the whole of western Liguria. It is not far from the larger cities and is
easily reached. It old houses with roof-terraces are a particular characteristic
and are a living expression of a typically Mediterranean architectural
style.
The more modern Varigotti, however, is the result of the development which has
taken place over the last decades and is a renowned seaside resort which, every
year, never fails to attract large numbers of tourists. Points of interest to
visit are the Church of San Lorenzo which rises up on a precipice which
overlooks the old port, the Parrocchiale (Parish church) of the XIVth century
situated at the centre of the Varigotti coastline which preserves works of local artists, and the Castle which is positioned at about 90 m (300 ft) sheer above the sea.
