In the past, from 1500 to 1700, this area was host to a large number of
religious wars, the end of which permitted the development of the sector of
metallurgy, due to the abundance of iron extracted, and of the sector of the
spinning and weaving of silk. Today, the Lake of Lugano could be defined as a
practically still unspoilt, natural oasis where it is possible to breath in
fresh air and relax in complete tranquillity. The valleys which surround the
Lake, such as the Valsolda, Val Rezzo or the Val Cavargna have a rough profile,
but are rich in lush vegetation. The Lake of Lugano is irregular in shape and,
along its banks, there are charming towns such as Lugano, the most modern in the
area. Typical dishes of the area of the Lake of Lugano have bases mainly of milk
and cheese, having always had cattle and sheep rearing as the principal local
activities.
At Lake of Lugano, there is tourist accommodation available in hotels, farm
holiday, farmhouse, residence self-catering accommodation, b&b, rooms for rent,
holiday homes, camp sites and tourist villages.
