It stands on the southern shore of the homonymous lake, with the final tip of land within the Franciacorta region at its back. The origins of Iseo go back to very ancient times. It has retained the urban layout which it had in the Middle Ages. There is a castle of modest proportions which opens onto the lake, with a large piazza and a small port; in the centre of the resort there is the parish church of Sant'Andrea, which was founded in the 5th cent. and revised using Romanesque styles in 1150.
Gargnano is one of the most visited localities of the lake, offering quiet tourism consisting in strolls along the lakeside and numerous cultural events. This village on the south/east side of the lake presents the most beautiful villas and palaces with gardens, as well as restaurants and bars.
