The origins of Cernobbio date back to the XIII century. It was a place of plundering and invasions on the part of the Spanish. Today Cernobbio is a holiday resort as well as a well known industrial centre, producing prevalently in the sector of wool and silk.
Amongst the more interesting buildings, there are: the Church of St. Michele of Rovenna; Villa Erba, dating back to 1898 and today a venue for congresses, Villa Pizzo of 1435, surrounded by lush vegetation; Villa Fontanelle of the 1700’s; the Church of St. Vincenzo in baroque style.
