San Benedetto Po contains its history in its own name, derived from the monks who built the monastery many years back in 1007. And it is indeed due to the presence of one of the most important Benedictine monastery complexes of the Po Valley that the town is principally of note.
The monastery of Polirone is so called because it is set between the Po and the Lirone rivers and is a combination of the buildings situated at the centre of San Benedetto Po; they tell of over two thousand years of history illustrated through frescos, statues, mosaics and decorative architectural features.
