Mantua is a thriving productive centre
on the Padana Plain, whose land is
shaped by the slow and sinuous courses
of its rivers, the Po and the Mincio.
The calm, expansive waters of the latter
envelope almost the whole city. The
environs of Mantua are graced with
many parks and thickly wooded areas,
where a variety of rare flora and fauna
can be found. Towards the north the
gently sloping hills of Garda rise unexpectedly, which not only bave natural
beauty, but also historical interest.
On the atmospheric lakes of Mantua
tourist boats follow the lower course of
the Mincio (the only Italian river that is
navigable all year round). These boats
pass by San Benedetto, Revere, Ferrara
over to Venice and into the Adriatic Sea.
