Ponti sul Mincio is the closest Mantuan town Lake Garda. Of a late roman or medieval origin it is situated at just 4 km from the lake Garda. The town plan, typical of the Middle Ages, is highlighted by the centrality of the castle placed on the top of the hill: the village is gathered around it. What remains of the ancient castle is reduced to the outside walls and four towers, plus the by the side of the entrance door.
What to see at Ponti sul Mincio: the parish church, dedicated to Sant'Antonio abbot dates back to the 16th century: it has a splendid wooden entrance portal with beautiful carvered panels. It contains valuable statues and a precious eighteenth century canvas on which the brothers Meves has painted a Madonna del Carmine with Scapolare worthy of mention and study. It dates back to 1702, according to the inscription of the tombstone on the altar.
Worth of attention are two prestigious 18th century Villas belonging to the families Mazzata and Garofolo and the ancient houses that overlooked Parolini square. Nearby, in direction of the Ponti sul Mincio, lies the two small 16th century oratories: the one of San Nicola and the one of the Malfatta.
