The Upper Valtellina is piaced at the borders between ltaly, Swiss and Austria,
in the heart of Rhaetian Alps. To the ski-areas of Bormio, Livigno and Santa
Caterina Valfurva, where 1985 the ski worid championships took place, the ski-
area of San Colombano, between Valdisotto-Oga and Valdidentro, is now to be
added. The Upper Valtellina has a long history. Bormio and the sidevalleys
constituted a "County", very important from a political point of view, that
guarded the most important Alpine passes. Towers, monuments, churches, noble
houses, historical and ethnographical museums testify the past. In Winter skiing
can count on high-level ski-lifts and slopes: in summer it's possible to ski on
the Stelvio-giacier. There are many tracks for cross country and many ways for
skiexcursions. In each season the interest for this area is enriched by thermal
waters, the protected nature of the Stelvio National Park, sports-equipments,
popular traditions, local handicraft and gastronomy. All this in the frame of
the friendly hospitality of Valtellina.
