Thermal Waters - The medical properties of the thermal waters of Bormio have been Known since ancient times and they have always attracted a discriminating tourist, who wants to enjoy the combination of a mountain stay and the exceptional benefits of the waters which flow from the Rhaetian Alps. There are as many as nine springs that flow from the bottom of these Alps with an average temperature range between 38 and 41 degree centigrade, the maximum flow being in winter and spring whilst the minimum being in summer. The people of Bormio have always taken the opportunity to economically utilize those natural waters and the Romans had already appreciated its beneficial therapeutical effects. Pliny the Elder related to the springs in the first century in his "Naturalis Historia" and Cassiodorus, at the beginning of the sixth century, mentioned the thermal springs of Bormio, recommending them as an excellent cure.
