Grottammare is to be found half-way down the Adriatic coastline, it enjoys a mild climate and a wide, sandy beach running into a shallow sea. In the Grottammare main square there's a charming portico from which you can admire a fabulous panorama of the lower part of Grottamare, of San Benedetto del Tronto and of the Adriatic sea.
It's best to make this visit after dark when the lights are twinkling and silence reigns. In the public park there's the Monument to Italy which marks the swearing-in-ceremony of the Parthenopean annexation, work of art of Vito Pardo, other monuments and art treasures worth a visit: the church of St. Agostino which preserves a fresco of V. Pagani Madonna della Misericordia; in the vestry of the church of St. Lucy there's an oil painting portrait of St. Sisto (born here in 1521); the Romanesque style church of St. Martin preserves a commemorative inscription of the restoration made by Emporer Hadrian to the temple of the Dea Cupra where a Jubilee fair is held every time that July 1st falls on a Sunday.
A curiosity: the 43rd parallel passes through Grottammare.
