This central place, Montecopiolo, is only a little above one thousand metres in a valley between rough mountains and was given by Ottone I to Carpegna and in 1140 it was the turn of Antonio Carpegna that gave it to nonother than Frederico Barbarossa. The fortess, today reduced to a ruin, resisted the assaults of the Malatesta but not that of the Medici and in 1520 was destroyed. So the town of Villagrande was developed and was since joined with Montecopiolo in 1816.
Between the economic-folklore iniziatives at Montecopiolo, are remembered the traditional festivals of Pugliano with animal markets and other merchandise, and the regional cattle show of the breed "Brown alpine".
