The town of Ferrazzano is situated on a hillside just a few kilometres from
Campobasso. From its belvedere viewpoint a splendid panorama welcomes visitors:
the city of Campobasso, surrounded by endless woodlands and countryside.
Especially in the evenings, the Monforte Castle stands out, illuminated by
evocative lighting.
Inside the town worthy of note are the church of Santa Maria Assunta rebuilt, it would seem, in the 13th century on a pre-existent religious building dating back to 1005 and then radically transformed in the 18th century: the remarkable
Romanesque portal, and the lunette and the splendid ambo of the interior date
back to the second phase of construction. Also of interest is the fifth century
Carafa Castle which presents evident traces of subsequent interventions. In the
Antiquarium are preserved, amongst other exhibits, sculptures and architectural
fragments, ancient testimonies to the history of Ferrazzano and its
