Ancient mountain village, Capracotta, lying between the Sangrio and Verrino valleys. Inhabited since the Bronze Age, at 1,416 m (4,645 ft) it is one of the highest villages in Italy. In winter the snow can be 5 m (over 16 ft) deep, and for this reason it is a popular winter sports resort.
It has an orderly appearance, with paved streests and stone houses.
