Venafro is a medium-sized town on the South of Italy, in the province of Isernia, region of Molise. After the fall of the Roman empire, Venafro became part of the Lombard dukedom of Benevento, to pass later to the countdom of Molise. The town is rich of archeological remains, such as the amphitheater, right in the center, over which houses were built in the course of time, and a great number of other items partly collected in the Archaeological Museum.
There are still several noble palazzos and a beautiful cathedral in Romanesque- Gothic style. What to see: the Pandone Castle, Monastery of San Nicandro, Palazzo Del Prete, Almieri, Reale, De Utris. Venafro's territory is importants for its high-quality olive oil production.
