Restaurants Typical Products
In ancient times, Isola d'Asti was but a small village set upon a piece of land
surrounded by two branches of the Tanaro river. After the year 1000, a dispute
arose over this island between the bishop and the podesta of Asti which lasted for two centuries.
Nearing the latter half of the 1300's, it was passed on to the Viscontes of
Milan and then was given as part of the dowry of Valentina, the bride of Louis
d'Orleans. The only remains left to mark Isola's past are an ancient bell tower
dating back to the 1600's and the church of St. Michael.
