The origin of Montegrosso d'Asti can be traced back around 1134, when during a plague that killed the inhabitants of several settlements of the Tiglione valley, the survivals moved converging on the top hill now hosting the locality, in order to find refuge in the healthier area.
The marquis Bonifacio del Vasto, Lord of the neighboring town of Asti, built a castle there, greatly imposing by size and by the presence of two towers which stood up as inexpugnable defense. The towers were nevertheless demolished when few decades after, Federico Barbarossa destroyed Chieri and Asti involving Montegrosso d'Asti in the same fate.
