Monforte d'Alba is a lively and hard working agricultural town, mainly devoted to the production of the precious Nebbiolo. It is a town which is rich in history: the Latin name "Mons Fortis" describes the existence of a small fortress with ancient Roman origins, of which there no longer remain traces. The small town of Monforte d'Alba is located at the top of a rise at an altitude of over 500 m a.s.l, at the southern boundaries of the Langhe area. Those visiting Monforte d'Alba can easily realise how this is a strategic outpost which, from up on high, dominates the large plains of Cuneo. Today, Monforte d'Alba has reached a respectable dimension and has maintained its characteristic of being a place of transit, making it a centre of tourist, wine and gastronomic attraction.
Take one of the various roads of access for reaching Monforte d'Alba, each being pleasant and fascinating with its different landscape characteristics. Monforte d'Alba is one of the most important municipalities for the production of Barolo wine: it is the second, after La Morra, for the quantity of land planted up with Nebbiolo vines for the production of Barolo, and for the number of grape cultivators. You cannot help but notice the large and prestigious historical wine cellars which are sometimes rather rustic and picturesque while others are refined and even quite grandiose.
