Monticello d'Alba is located in the Roero area of the region of Piedmont, on the left bank of the river Tanaro, a few kilometres from Alba, home of the white truffle. At the wish of Pope Gregorio XI in 1372, the feud passed to the Roero dynasty who are still the owners of the castle. The latter is situated on a hillside which, from up on high, overlooks the small town and which is amongst the best preserved medieval buildings in Piedmont; it may be visited during the summer months.
Things also worth seeing are the Romanesque chapel of San Ponzio located in the old cemetery and, in the Borgo quarter, there is the church dedicated to the Nativity.
In this area, excellent quality wines are produced, such as Roero Arneis, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Favorita and Roero.
