Castiglione Tinella is situated on the very outside edge of the province of
Cuneo, where the last Langa hills overlook the Monferrato district. It covers an area which are almost all on the hills, and over 90% of the agricultural area is dedicated to the cultivation of vines. This makes it one of the Boroughs most occupied by vineyards in Italy. Three main ridges run away from the highest point of the town and slope down towards the Tinella and Belbo valleys, before continuing into other smaller valley.
The rows of vines interweave in geometrical designs, creating pretty patterns
and harmonious natural works of art. Never-ending vineyards climb and fall,
fluctuating one after the other; stories told by the fatigue of the vine
dresser, which every evening, soak up the colour of the setting sun. History,
tradition and culture come together in this precious, magical corner of rare
beauty and place of worship for the world's wine-gastronomy civilisation.
Moscato d'Asti is protected by the denomination of controlled and guaranteed
origin. The grape, unique in its kind, is sweet and aromatic with an inebriating musky aroma, which is immediate, full and original. Its juice can be used to make two types of wine: Moscato d'Asti DOCG and Asti DOCG (spumante). The first is made in limited quantities and is very prestigious. It is obtained by fermentation in autoclave with just the sugar naturally present in the grape; the wine conserves all the fragrance and sweetness of the fruit. The second is made in much greater quantities and is produced mainly by the spumante industry and destined for sale on large international markets. The unique and essential characteristic of both is the rich and intense aroma, with sensations reminiscent of acacia, wisteria and orange blossom. They are the pride of Italian wine growing and enology, favoured by a particular environment which is found mainly on these hills.
