A whole of rocky mountains on a promontory stretching onto the southern Adriatic sea, constitutes one of the four Puglia's subregion: the Gargano. Its highest peak is that of Monte Calvo, 1056 mt.The promontory is bordered by the Gulf of Manfredonia to the south, and by the Adriatic portion of the Tremiti Isles to the North. Nowadays we talk about Gargano in terms of an uncontaminated area, representing a real discovery for the national and international tourism. Even in past centuries its territory was defined as "the rich mountain of Italy" for its natural beauties, the variety of its vegetation and produce, working and rare stones; also famous for its marbles, alabaster and lithographic stones.
