It is smaller than Lampedusa (it is just 5,4 sq km), it has less inhabitants, it is less important from the historical point of view (it was not even touched by the second world war) and the one of the legends, nevertheless Linosa is as interesting as the elder sister, from which is 57 km far. Its vulcanic origins are testified by three craters: Monte Rosso (Mount Red), Monte Nero (Mount Black) and Monte Vulcano (Mount Volcano), the last one considered the "roof" of the island becouse 195 m high.
For an ideal sighseeing to Linosa, we suggest the Faraglioni, the Greek Cave (Grotta del Greco), the Tramontana Cave, the Bethlehem Cave and, above all, the typical beach of Cala di Pozzolana di Ponente, famous for the black sand. From the top of the Mount Volcano you can have a seperb view, and interesting to be visited are the roman water tank "Cisterna romana" and the watering-place of
Mount Bandiera.
