Santa Venerina is situated in the hillside along the coast 337 metres above sea level. The area around Santa Venerina was inhabited in Byzantine and Roman times, as bear witness the findings of baths and an ancient oratory. The territory of Santa Venerina was part of the nearby Acireale until 1934 when it became an autonomous municipality. Things to see here are the Matrice church dedicated to the patron saint, Santa Venera. Here are preserved paintings from the 1700's by Alessandro and Pietro Paolo Vasta.
In the environs, and more precisely in the locality of Dàgala del Re, there are the remains of a small Christian temple. Local produce is based on the cultivation of must grapes, fruit, citrus fruits and hazelnuts.
