The small town of Reitano, in the province of Messina, is located in the coastal hills at 396 meters above sea level. It is predominantly an agricultural town: cereals, must grapes, olives and citrus fruits are the principle products. Founded in the year 1000, Reitano was a hamlet of Mistretta until the year 1648. Almost until the year 1800, it belonged to the dukedom of the Colonna's, a Roman family which left behind some important artistic evidence, especially in their summer residence, located, in fact, in the "Colonna" district.
Positioned about 12 km from Santo Stefano Camastra, Reitano was an important and active trading centre. Places to see are the Carmine Church which preserves a rich portal, and the Chiesa Madre which holds a beautiful marble statue representing the Madonna with child. The Nebrodi Park is also worth a special visit.
