Originally, the centre of Balestrate was represented by the little church of S. Anna. In old times, it was called "Sicciara", and was where Giuseppe Garibaldi once stayed. Today it is a small seaside town in the Gulf of Castellammare, characterised by a long beach of fine, golden sand.
During the summer season, when the town is overflowing with tourists, performances, festivals and sports events are organised. As well as a shallow, crystal clear sea, Balestrate also offers the splendour of its natural scenery of luxuriant little woods and the cliffs which are ideal for the lovers of fishing. The main income, apart from that coming from fishing, is from the production of vines and oil.
