At the southern tip of the triangular shape of Sicily, near Capo Passero, Pachino is renowned for its wine production, its prime quality vegetables like the small pomodorini tomatoes, and its fishing (Portopalo di Capo Passero and Marzamemi have large tunny-fishing nets).
In the neighbourhood of Pachino is the Calafarina cave, in which early Neolithic ceramics and a stone-works from the end of the Palaeolithic have been discovered. Across a thin stretch of sea lies the Isoletta di Capo Passero, and on this small island stands an old coastal watch-tower (18th c.) which has been rebuilt many times.
